This week our foodie is Selina, a 21-year-old vegan who lives in Central London and recently joined Kafoodle as our Sales & Marketing Intern!

How many time a week do you eat out and roughly how much do you spend?

"I would say I eat out about once or twice a week for dinner or on the weekends and also like to try a new cafe with friends. I probably spend between £6-14 on eating out each time. Having just graduated from university I am in still on a student budget so I try to pack my own lunches and meal prep most days."

What foods can you not eat or wish to avoid?

"I have been on a plant-based diet for 10 months now, meaning I do not eat any dairy, meat, eggs, fish or animal derived products which has been an interesting journey learning to read labels and ingredients lists."

How do you decide where to eat?

"Since becoming vegan, I always check online menus before eating out or make visits based on recommendations. Especially when I am with friends that have a different diet from me, it’s important to make sure there will be something that suits everyone's tastes. The site Happy Cow is very helpful to find restaurants with vegetarian or vegan options."

What would make eating out easier for you and allow you to #eatwithconfidence?

"My biggest struggle is that sometimes the vegan options are not clearly stated even when they have those options on their menu. I think the line between vegetarian and vegan can be blurred or the staff do not always know what a vegan diet entails so a clear label in some restaurants would be very helpful. At first, I was nervous to always ask if they had any vegan options when eating out with a group so if it was already on their menu it would make the experience much easier. I think also we are lucky that here in London there is a lot of information online but sometimes it can be more difficult when visiting another city."

Tell us your favourite restaurant?

"This is too hard to decide! I love going to different food markets; Camden, Borough and Brick Lane on weekends are some of my favourites. They have so many options and I am always ready to try a new burger or brownies. Otherwise, I recently when to JustFAB an Italian vegan pop-up truck and that was delicious and of course Mildreds which is quite well known. For a quick grab, I do love the avocado, olives and sundried tomatoes sandwich from Pret and their new almond butter chocolate cookie!"Did you know that in the last ten years there has been a 360% increase in the number of UK vegans? This means that at least 542,000 people in Britain are now following a vegan diet which is a major opportunity for restaurants and pubs. Kafoodle’s software works to help people like Selina to #eatwithconfidence when they want to dine out.You can find out more about what Kafoodle can do for you here or by contacting us directly at: info@kafoodle.com or on 02033710450We'd love to hear from you!
