Allergy & Free From Show 2018 - Our review

On Friday the 6th of July we attended the Allergy and Free From Show, the world’s largest celebration of ‘free from’ food, drink and lifestyle. An exciting day for all of us with special dietary requirements or those just wanting to see what this rapidly evolving sector has to offer. It was amazing to see how many brands are looking to cater for dairy-free, gluten-free and vegan diets and reminded us once again how big this sector is becoming. Here's our little round-up to give you a taste of what we saw at this year's show.Firstly, it was great to see more awareness around low FODMAP diets, with the shows headline sponsor, Schar, promoting their new low-FODMAP range. The term FODMAP stands for Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides, and Polyols which is basically a diet to help reduce stomach and abdominal pain often caused by products that contain gluten, lactose, and fructose. To cater to those looking to follow a low FODMAP diet, Schar has launched a range of new gluten-free products, from chocolate biscuits to bread and pasta.

In terms of dairy-free alternatives, the Tesco Free From range was expansive and included a great variety of products. As an award-winning brand, we were particularly intrigued by Tesco’s fantastic new range of dairy-free cheese, which was delicious. Another company expanding into the dairy-free market was Koko Dairy Free with their dairy/soy free coconut range. We tried their cheddar and soft cheese spread which both got the Kafoodle seal of approval. If you are looking for a new yoghurt to try we’d also recommend the Nush cashew ‘milk’ yoghurt which was extremely creamy and great for those needing a dairy and soy-free yoghurt alternative.

Alongside the explosion of new free-from flavours, we were also impressed by the beautiful packaging of new upcoming brands such as Baotic, One Earth Organics and Nucao. All three brand are committed to both environmental and social issues, whether it is through Nucao and Baotic’s recycled packaging or One Earth Organics working with a working with rural baobab collector in Zimbabwe. It is great to see companies raising awareness about important issues and causes that they are passionate about.

Finally, the show also showcased some amazing lifestyle products: such as the clothing brand Plant Faced Clothing with its vegan and sustainable graphic sweatshirts, the Huxley Hound providing ethically-sourced snacks for dogs and Jack N Jill who sell natural care products for children. The Allergy and Free From Show 2018 was a wonderful event, promoting those products that can be difficult to find when you have an allergy or eat with special dietary requirements. As ever it was amazing to see how this industry is growing and to discover new brands bringing their offering to the tableTo find out more about how Kafoodle can help you appeal to the growing free-from market get in touch today on 020 3371 0450 or using the button at the end of this post.
